The back of your neck is the part you never see but everyone else does. Here are the three classic necklines and how to choose.
The three options
Blocked (squared)
A straight, horizontal line across the neck. It looks sharp immediately but shows regrowth fastest as stray hairs appear below the line.
Rounded
The corners are curved off for a softer, classic look. Flattering on most necks and a touch more forgiving than a block.
Tapered (natural)
The hair fades down to skin with no hard line. It grows out the most gracefully, which is why many barbers recommend it for low maintenance.
How to choose
- Want maximum sharpness now: blocked.
- Want a balance: rounded.
- Hate the ‘grown-out’ look: tapered.
Maintenance reality
A blocked neckline can look untidy within a week; a taper still looks fine at three. Pick based on how often you realistically get cut.
If you are not sure, ask your barber to show you the difference next time you are in for a men’s haircut in Chicago. The team at Artur’s Barber Shop can match the neckline to how often you visit.
